This project involved enlarging a pond to improve walleye production. An extended reach backhoe was used to remove the materials in this existing pond. Even though the hourly rate on this machine was higher than a machine with a shorter reach, the final cost was significantly less using the larger machine. A shorter reach machine would have required moving some dirt twice. We also request larger bucket without teeth to leave the bottom of the pond smoother and move the dirt more quickly. The pond was refilled. Then it was given a generous inoculation of zooplankton, and a small amount of dye was added to limit weed growth.
